About Lulu Wild

"Stay close to anything that makes you feel the sun from the inside out"

Lulu Wild started as handmade headwear brand created by myself, Fay, in my home in the heart of the Lake District. Lulu Wild currently consists of a range of chunky knitted headbands which are inspired by my love for the outdoors.

My Grandma taught me to knit years ago but it’s something that I hadn’t done for years yet it is a skill that I never forgot, much like the old saying of riding a bike. The product idea started after overhearing a friend describe something she could not find for her outdoor adventures, which bridged style and comfort. During lockdown in December 2020, Lulu Wild was unknowingly started after experimenting with cosy wool and chunky knitting patterns, creating a new headband for a friend. What started as a headband for a friend, became requests from others, and the start of a brand, which continues to grow and develop.

When I put the first few headbands up for sale in the @Alpkit Ambleside store I wasn’t even slightly prepared for the response. They sold out straight away and each time I restocked, they would fly off the shelves again – I couldn’t believe it. This was followed by selling my headbands via Instagram, @theepicentrelakes and @thewildswildswimstore. I was overwhelmed by the reaction which spurred me on to develop Lulu Wild further this year. Starting my own business was never part of the plan which developed much to my surprise, but it has brought me so much joy. I still don’t have a strict plan or know which way things will go but I am going to let the journey unfold organically. I have spent the summer creating more headbands, building the website, shooting new imagery and creating new products as part of Lulu Wild’s future.

I’d like to say huge thank you anyone who has supported me. I also want to encourage anyone out there to just go for it if they have an idea that they think about trying.  This wasn’t something I ever thought would happen. Who knew some lakeside chit chat and post swim shivers could lead to this hey?

THE FUTURE

The Lake District has my heart.

The Lake District is my home and a place I love deeply. I am passionate about living a life which endeavours to bask in it’s beauty, freedom and escapism. You can usually find me up in the fells, running on the trails, swimming in the lakes or exploring with my two spaniels – Lulu & Foxy. It is important that my products represent my love for the Lake District and my desire for adventure. Whether that be the product design, graphics, sustainability or supporting other small local businesses.

I see Lulu Wild developing beyond beautiful headbands and I have a few idea’s instore which I have been trying to perfect on my sewing machine over recent months - I am excited to share these with you soon. I would also like to team up with, support and collaborate with other local likeminded people and small business owners to create further products and support the community of small businesses here within the Lake District. If you feel you could collaborate with Lulu Wild in some way please do get in touch, I would love to hear from you.

There is something very special about small businesses coming together to support one another and creating a product greater than one they could each on their own. I have a vision to collaborate with local illustrators to have their designs printed onto fabric to then use to create Lulu Wild products. Again, ensuring the magic of the Lake District is captured within this and using local business wherever possible.
